DWI Checkpoint on Gravois Brings Fourth DWI Charge For Affton Man

St. Louis County Police said the Alan Koerner was driving with a blood-alcohol content at twice the legal limit.

An Affton man faces a felony charge after being stopped at a DWI checkpoint on Gravois Road March 15.

Alan Koerner, 39, of the 9000 block of Niles Place in Affton, was charged March 16 with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender, and driving while his license was revoked. He has three previous DWI convictions.

St. Louis County Police said Koerner drove a 1994 Dodge pickup into a police checkpoint March 15 at 8430 Gravois Road. An officer reported Koerner had difficulty removing his ID from his wallet and Koerner told the officer his driver’s license had been revoked.

The officer said he smelled alcohol on Koerner’s breath, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and Koerner did poorly on sobriety tests.

A Breathalyzer test show Koerner’s blood-alcohol content was 0.176 percent.

Koerner previously pleaded guilty to DWI three times in 2008, once each in St. Louis County Circuit Court, Bella Villa and St. George.

Koerner posted a $10,000 bond and was released from St. Louis County jail March 18 after a warrant was served that same day.
