Missing Child Scare Calls Police Helicopter Over Affton

The 10-year-old was reported missing Wednesday afternoon but was quickly found.

The search for a missing girl ended happily Wednesday, but not before some Affton residents were startled all the police activity.

Police told Patch that the 10 year old girl from the 7800 block Genesta St. was reported missing by her parents around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday. She had last been seen riding her bike.

The girl was later located, still riding her bike.

Police were dispatched to look for the girl, and an off-duty police helicopter was called in over Affton to assist with the search.

"We do not take missing children calls lightly," said Officer Dave Sebek of the Affton Precinct.

Because the child was found relatively quickly, no police report was filed.

Two Patch readers noticed the helicopter and searching police and posted about it on our Facebook page.

"Two different police cars stopped my son and his friends asking about a little girl," Laura Harmon Lanemann wrote.

"Patrol cars all over near my house around 6:30...also Eric said they were up at high school," Barb Hogan Hegger wrote.
