After Son Threatened Ex-Girlfriend, Affton Mother is Charged With Hiding Shotgun From Police

St. Louis County Police said Cynthia Waters hid the weapon, which officers said was used by her son to threaten his ex-girlfriend.

A woman faces a criminal charge after St. Louis County Police said she hid a shotgun used by her son in a crime.

Cynthia Waters, 53, of the 4400 block of Little Chief Drive in South County, was charged Feb. 22 with tampering with physical evidence.

St. Louis County Police said they were searching for a pistol-grip shotgun used by Waters’ son, Tyler Waters, in a domestic assault case.

St. Louis County Police said Cynthia Waters told officers there were no guns in her home to her knowledge. When police officers searched her home, they found a pistol-grip shotgun hidden in a closet.

According to a court document, calls between Tyler and Cynthia Waters incriminated her, and she also made incriminating statements to the police.

Waters posted 10 percent of a $15,000 bond and was released from jail Feb. 22.
