Updated: Teen Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle in Affton

St. Louis County Police said the injuries weren't life threatening.

A teenager suffered non-life threatening injuries aftering being struck by a car Wednesday afternoon in Affton.

The 13-year-old was walking westbound on General Sherman Lane around 4:30 p.m. when he was struck, St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Randy Vaughn said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but Vaughn said his injuries weren't life-threatening.

Vaughn could not confirm the age or identity of the driver Thursday afternoon. No charges have been filed against the driver pending an investigation, he added.

"If there is a licensing issue, [authorities] would definitely be issuing tickets," he said.

People using General Sherman for a shortcut, be aware! This is a residential area, a curvy road you have to watch out for people walking or you will hit someone. This kid was fortunate not to have life threatening injuries, doesn't always work out that way. PLEASE slow down when approaching Laclede, there are bus stops there, it's not the highway.

That kid wasn't using a cut through...He was a 15 year old who didn't even have a permit! And he lives in the neighborhood! But I agree people need to be more cautious on General Sherman!

Thanks for your comment, Beth. I've heard a couple reports that the driver was underage, but Vaughn could not confirm that yesterday. Hopefully by the end of the day I'll have more details on the incident and whether charges were issued.
