Second Man Charged in Series of Parking Lot Robberies

St. Louis County Police said they believe Curtis Edwards held the handgun in the Mehlville Kmart robbery on May 11.

A second man has been charged in a in Mehlville, Crestwood, Shrewsbury and Brentwood.

Curtis Edwards, 26, of the 2600 block of Rottingdean in North County, was charged Thursday with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action in the May 11 robbery in the parking lot.

St. Louis County Police said in a report that Edwards and , pulled up in a Chevy Impala as a woman was retrieving something from her car in  parking lot. Edwards displayed a semi-automatic handgun and stole her purse, according to the report.

Police said they believe that the Kmart and subsequent parking lot robberies were related. In each robbery, at least two men pulled up in a car, displayed a semi-automatic handgun and took a woman’s purse. The robberies include:

  • May 11 Kmart parking lot at 3901 Lemay Ferry Road in Mehlville;
  • May 12 Kohl’s parking lot at 9701 Watson Road in Crestwood;
  • May 15 Mackenzie Pointe Dierbergs parking lot, 7233 Watson Road in Shrewsbury;
  • May 30 Shane Co. parking lot, 10 Promenade Court.

Prince was charged last week with two counts of robbery and one count of armed criminal action in the Mehlville and Crestwood purse snatchings.

Crestwood and Shrewsbury Police said they have arrested three suspects in connection with the robberies and warrants are pending.

A third man, not yet charged, is a suspect in the . He is in custody.

Brentwood Police Sgt. Jim McIntyre said Thursday afternoon that the robbery at  has been presented together with the .

"It's now in the prosecuting attorney's hands," McIntyre said. "It's under review. We're hoping to hear back today or (Friday), but it could be as late as next week."
