Shrewsbury Police Blotter: Burglar Turned on Stove?

The following information was supplied by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Friday, August 12

Shrewsbury Police are investigating a residential burglary in the 7200 block of Murdoch Avenue. The homeowner reported to police that someone entered her home while she was out for a walk between 7:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and turned on a gas burner on her stove. There was no forced entry into the home.

At 12:30 p.m., police investigated the theft of a wedding ring from a coffee table in the 7200 block of Nottingham Ave. There was no forced entry into the home. The teenage son had three friends at the home the previous evening that police are seeking to question about this incident.

A man from Ramsey, Indiana was arrested for speeding at 54 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone and for Driving While Intoxicated 1:30 a.m. in the 7500 block of Watson Rd. The suspect’s breath sample was measured at .172%.

During the overnight hours someone entered an insecure 2005 Nissan pickup truck in the 7000 block of Rhodes Avenue and tried to steal the stereo.

Monday, August 15

A woman on Kain Drive reported that her boyfriend assaulted her as she tried to move out of his home on Monday, August 15. The boyfriend left the area prior to police arriving on the scene, but he was arrested on Wednesday, August 17.

A resident of the 7500 block of Murdoch Avenue reported that someone used her credit card number to make $342.55 in fraudulent purchases in Dallas, Texas on August 14.

Police were called to a disturbance in the 5000 block of Hi View Avenue. The teenage son of the residents was having mental health issues and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 17

Roofers Mart reported the theft of eight boxes of special nails from the loading dock area. They were valued at $1,500 on Wednesday. Management told police they found receipts in a company truck from a scrap yard with a former employee’s name on the receipts. Police are seeking the man for questioning.

Thursday, August 18 

Police are looking for a woman that stole a pair of Reebok kid’s shoes valued at $32.98 from Shoe Carnival, 7319 Watson Rd. She was last seen entering a black Pontiac Grand Am with a temporary tag for a license plate.
