Shrewsbury Police Officer Honored by VFW

Jason Dietl has a knack for making drug arrests.

Shrewsbury Police Officer Jason Dietl has been honored with a “Certificate of Appreciation” from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On March 1 the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 111 conducted their annual awards ceremony for selected officers of the and Webster Groves Police and Fire Departments at .

Dietl was raised in Webster Groves and graduated from Webster Groves High School. He graduated from the Northern Michigan University with a degree in criminal justice, and he joined the Shrewsbury Police Department in December 2009 after graduating from the Eastern Missouri Police Academy in St. Charles.

According to a department press release, Dietl’s familiarity with the area has been a tremendous asset in his police activities.

“He continues to seek ways in which to improve his performance and has developed strong working relationships with not only members of our agency, but those of other departments as well,” the department wrote in its release. “During his relatively short tenure with the Shrewsbury Police Department, Jason has proven himself to be a highly motivated officer who is consistently among the highest performers with respect to self-initiated activity.”

Dietl has a penchant for catching illicit drug activity. In 2011 he was responsible for almost 20% of the arrests made by the entire department, and 40% of those arrests that he made were drug-related. He even has several significant felony drug arrests on his resume, including a substantial seizure of money and drugs made after a routine loud noise call at an apartment.
