Weigh In on Shrewsbury Police Accreditation

Assessors from CALEA will be in town this week to examine Shrewsbury Police procedures for re-accreditation.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), will arrive Saturday to examine Shrewsbury Police Department policy and procedures, management, operations and support services.

The examination is part of a voluntary process the department is undertaking to gain re-accreditation from CALEA—a prestigious recognition of public safety professional excellence.

As part of the onsite assessment, members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 7 p.m. Monday. The session will be conducted in the aldermanic chambers at .

If an individual cannot attend the session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he or she may do so by telephone. Call 314-607-6509 between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Shrewsbury Police station.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Shrewsbury Police Department’s can write to Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320 Gainesville, VA 2055.

The CALEA Program Manager for the Shrewsbury Police Department is Lieutenant Brian Catlett. He said the assessment team is composed of public safety practitioners from similar, but out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and visit department offices to check for compliance with CALEA standards.
