Police: Man Stole Copper Gutters From Laclede Station Road Home

St. Louis County Police said Michael Leicht stole copper piping from Delmar Gardens South nursing home and a home in Affton.

An Arnold man is accused of stealing copper guttering from an an Affton home and a South County nursing home to sell the metal for scrap. The gutter stolen from the nursing home was valued at $12,864.

Michael A. Leicht, 55, of the 1600 block of Piney Drive in Arnold, was charged Thursday with one count of felony stealing and one count of misdemeanor stealing.

St. Louis County Police said Leicht stole two copper drainpipes from a home in the 8600 block of South Laclede Station Road in Affton at about 11:05 a.m. June 26. Police said witnesses saw Leicht stealing the drainpipe and identified him from a photo lineup.

Police said Leicht then stole copper downspouts on July 5 and July 12 from Delmar Gardens South nursing home at 5300 Butler Hill Road in South County.

Witnesses described the car used in the theft and that was traced to Leicht, according to police.

Leicht is being held in the St. Louis County Justice Center. Bail was set at $30,000.
