Good Idea? Selling Lottery Tickets at Gas Pumps

Should the lottery proceed with plans to sell tickets from machines at gas pumps and ATMs?

The Missouri Lottery is about to try out a new plan to sell more Powerball and state lottery tickets. The department wants to catch us at gas pumps and ATM machines — right where we're armed with our credit and debit cards.

That news comes from a front-page story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Friday.

Is that a good idea?

If you're Jason Hughes from St. Charles, who just won a million bucks in the Powerball lottery, you might not think it's a bad idea.

According to the Post-Dispatch article: "With the lottery seeing record sales numbers the past three years, lawmakers — Republicans and Democrats — have shown increased interest, eyeing the lottery as a way to generate more money without raising taxes. That’s led lottery officials to look for ways to generate more sales."

What do you think? Is this a good idea? Let us know in this week's Conversation Starter in the comments below.
