Shrewsbury News Briefs: Murdoch Traffic Easing, Treadmill Runs Out

And officials were sworn in after the April election.

Bridge Closure

Police Chief Jeff Keller reported that initial traffic problems caused by near where it intersects with Laclede Station Road have been reduced. Keller said there hadn’t been an uptick in accidents but added that officers had been handing out tickets to motorists making illegal right turns onto residential streets to avoid the traffic buildup.

Treadmill Runs Out

Director of Parks and Recreation Chris Buck reported that the city’s fitness center is down to only two treadmills after a third malfunctioned last week. Buck said the machine had been running on borrowed time, entering its seventh year of service when the average life expectancy for such equipment is five years.

Buck estimated that the cost for a new one ranges from $3,000 to 5,000. He said he was also looking into refurbished models.

Officials Sworn In

The board officially approved the results from and swore in three incumbent aldermen. Ward 2 Alderman Ed Kopff faced a challenger while Ward 1 Alderman Sam Scherer and Ward 3 Alderwoman Chris Gorman ran unopposed.
