Affton High Student Wins Excellence in Science Award

Junior Paige Smith was honored with the University of Missouri–St. Louis 2013 Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Science Award last month.

Affton High School junior Paige Smith was honored with the University of Missouri–St. Louis 2013 Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Science Award last month, according to a news release from the Affton School District.

“Paige is not only very intelligent and hard working,” science teacher Laurie Free said. “She distinguishes herself by being very inquisitive, which is a key characteristic of a good scientist.”

Smith was among 35 area high school students to receive the distinction, according to the release. Chosen by their respective high schools, the students had to demonstrate excellence in academic performance and outstanding capabilities in the sciences, including the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
