Affton Students Learn Alongside Professionals From St. Anthony's, SSM and SLU Medical School

Students compared human anatomy to cow and sheep anatomy in the Project Lead the Way program at Affton High School.

The Project Lead the Way program drew local medical professionals to assist with hands-on learning at Affton High School last month.

Students enrolled in the program were able to investigate the anatomy of the brain and spinal cord, notes a news release from the school district.

Four professionals assisted with the learning: Dr. Paul H. Young (MD), neurosurgeon with St. Anthony’s Medical Center; Dr. Paul A. Young (PHD), anatomy professor at St. Louis University Medical School; Dr. Julia C. Young (MD), pediatrician with SSM Preferred Pediatrics; and Lisa Carr, neurosurgical RN at St. Anthony’s Medical Center.

“The eye is the window to the brain,” stated Dr. Rottler in the news release. “It is a very important structure for surgeons and one of the first things we look at when someone comes in to an ER with trauma.”
