Predicting Weather for Life and Commerce

Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site will hold a special program to commemorate the 142nd anniversary of the establishment of the federal agency that today is known as the National Weather Service.  The "Division of Telegrams and Reports for the Benefit of Commerce" was established by order of Congress and signed by President Ulysses S. Grant on February 9, 1870. Later, the Division became the National Weather Service we know today that helps us plan our daily lives and warns of impending storms in order to save lives and property.

The program will feature a keynote address by Warning Coordination Meteorologist James Kramper of the National Weather Service.  Mr. Kramper's talk will focus on the history of the Weather Service as a unit of the Department of Commerce and address the impact of the tornados that hit Sunset Hills and North St. Louis City are New Year's Eve 2010.

The program is free, however due to space limitations reservations are required.  Call 314-842-1867 for reservations and information.
