Gotsch Award of $1,455 Will Go to Running Club, Breakfasts

Gotsch Intermediate School has been chosen to receive $1,455 from the Midwest Dairy Council to support its Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative, Affton School District has announced. This is the second such grant the school has received.

Gotsch was selected from among hundreds of schools across the country that applied for the funding to help them jumpstart and sustain healthy nutrition and physical activity improvements.

The funds go to foodservice materials and equipment, nutrition and physical education materials, student and staff incentives, and staff development at Gotsch.

Funds from this second grant will go to a running club and to promote healthy breakfast. The running club will be a before school program during fall and spring.  Breakfast will follow each morning the club meets.

“Having healthy snack options and exercise balls from our first Fuel Up to Play 60 grant has been really great for our students,” Dr. Christine Powers, principal at Gotsch Intermediate School said. “We look forward to adding to these options by starting our running club.”
