Gotsch Teacher Use Heimlich Maneuver on Co-Worker

A Gotch Intermediate School teacher assistant possibly saved the life of a substitute teacher at the school in September.

Pamela King, a long-term substitute at Gotsch Intermediate School, was eating lunch on Tues., Sept. 17, when a piece of her food became lodged in her throat, according to a press release from the school district.

"All of a sudden she started hitting me on the arm," said Cindy Doerr, a teacher assistant.

King was unable to breathe or speak.

Doerr had been trained in the Heimlich maneuver, but never needed to use it until that day. She said she didn't have time to think about it, she just acted.
