Lindbergh High School Gets a Gold Star

Lindbergh High School is among eight high-performing public high schools that have been named as Missouri’s "Gold Star Schools" for 2012, state education officials announced. The selected schools are:

Bradleyville, Mo.

Center Senior High School
Center 58 School District
Kansas City, Mo.

Maryville High School
Maryville R-II School District
Maryville, Mo.

Crane High School
Crane R-III School District
Crane, Mo.

Park Hill South High School
Park Hill School District
Kansas City, Mo.

Lawson High School
Lawson R-XIV School District
Lawson, Mo.

Valley Park Senior High School
Valley Park School District
Valley Park, Mo.

“These eight high schools are noteworthy examples of excellence in education across the state of Missouri,” said Missouri Commissioner of Education Chris Nicastro. “This recognition is attributed to the commitment of students, parents and staff to educational success.”

Established by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 1991, the Gold Star program is designed to identify schools that are performing at a high level academically or making exceptional progress while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students.

“We are very excited about being named a 2012 Missouri Gold Star School!” said Lindbergh High School Principal Ron Helms. “Years of hard work and effort from each elementary, middle and high school student and instructor has made it possible for Lindbergh High School to achieve this honor. Our teachers and staff should be proud of all the work they have done to help students learn.”

In 2010-11, Lindbergh High School's state test scores ranked No. 5 among high schools in Missouri that serve grades 9-12. Lindbergh High School is also a National School of Character, a Top 1,000 School in the Nation, and a Silver Medal School on U.S. News and World Report’s list of America’s Best High Schools. In addition, Lindbergh High School is ranked on the 2011 Washington Post “High School Challenge” list.

As a recipient of the state’s Gold Star award, Lindbergh High School also is eligible for the national Blue Ribbon award, pending results of this year’s state assessments. Blue Ribbon award winners will be announced in the fall by the U.S. Department of Education.
