Safety Alert: Stranger Approached Rogers Student

A man in a pickup truck approached a Rogers Middle School student on Evandale Drive, near Mackenzie and Gravois, at about 2:20 p.m Wednesday.

A man in an older model white pickup truck approached a Rogers Middle School student on Evandale Drive, near Mackenzie Road and Gravois Road, at about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Affton School District is alerting parents of the incident, and the St. Louis County Police Department is investigating.

"While this event may be isolated, we wanted to make you aware, and we join the authorities in urging all students and their families to take precautions while away from home and particularly while traveling to and from school," the Affton School District said on its website.

The school district also provided three safety rules for parents to establish with their children:

  1. Students should not walk to or from school or a bus stop alone; always walk with a friend.
  2. If approached by a stranger, the student should run away.
  3. If a stranger touches or attempts to grab a student, the child should yell and scream.

If you or your children encounter suspicious activity traveling to or from school, contact the St. Louis County Police.

And a huge thanks to Affton-Shrewsbury Patch Facebook fan David Rowlands who alerted us to this incident!
