Lindbergh Holds Off Mehlville For Fifth Straight Victory

In the second of a two-game series, Lindbergh wins at Mehville, 6-5, for the sweep.

After a tough 5-4 win at home on Tuesday, Lindbergh traveled to Mehlville on Wednesday to conclude the home-and-home series.

Despite a late rally, including clutch hitting from Mehlville (5-7) catcher Austin Kretzer, the Flyers hung on to win, 6-5. Lindbergh moves to 7-2, including a 4-0 mark in the Suburban West Conference. Mehlville is 0-4 in league play.

Lindbergh took an early 4-1 lead following the second inning, and led 5-2 after three. Senior starting pitcher Jared Haenni threw four innings, allowing two runs and striking out five batters.

Junior infielder Sean Murphy led the Lindbergh offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Senior infielder Will Bartholomew added two hits and drove in one run.

Late in the game, Kretzer's second of two big hits drove in two runs to close the gap to a single run. But, the rally was not enough, however, as Lindbergh senior pitcher Will Spitzfaden closed the game.
