Six Cor Jesu Atheletes Sign Schools on National Women and Sports Day

Five soccer players and one softball player are headed to college next fall.

Six seniors signed letters of intent to play collegiate athletics Wednesday, an occasion that coincides with National Women and Sports Day, which celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Title IX. Title IX was a federal law passed in 1972 that prohibits sex discrimination in education. When Title IX was enacted, only one in 27 girls in high school participated in athletics. Today, one in three girls participates in high school athletics.

Here are the Cor Jesu seniors who signed their letters of intent:

  • Sam Bersett will play soccer at New Jersey Institute of Technology
  • Emily Bollinger will play soccer at The University of South Carolina
  • Lena Dyer will play softball at Millikin University
  • Maria Merlo will play soccer at Rockhurst University
  • Erin McGauley will play soccer at Xaiver University
  • Jenn Miller will play soccer at Ole Miss
