Talk of the Town: NFL, the Stock Market, and a Kardashian Wedding

"Patch" brings you a local look at national news. What news stories are you watching this week?

From Hurricane Irene, to the NFL draft, to the volatile stock market, and a Kardashian wedding, the people of Affton, Shrewsbury and nearby communities share what they are following in the news this week.

“I’m a big Rams fan, so I’m excited about getting them going. As far as national news goes, though, I’ve been watching the economy. I’m worried, concerned. Watching the stock market fluctuate so much is obviously troubling.” –Kevin Damron, Affton

“I follow Kim Kardashian’s wedding. It was cool, but they was trying to act like they was broke because she wanted Jennifer Lopez to perform and Christina Agulera, and they wanted a million dollars to do it each. And they turned them down, cause the mother said it was too much money.” –Ken Williams, Shrewsbury

“I’ve been following just the draft picks that have been going on. Who’s been traded to who. I think that Plaxico Burress is going to have a decent year this year…because of Mark Sanchez.” –Anthony Dulay, Shrewsbury

“We talk about the market a lot…just the volatility of it, how it’s going up and down. It’s up a little today, kind of flat. Actually it ended flat. I’d say the volatility of the market has nothing to do with the U.S. economy, in my opinion.” –Martin White, Clayton

“I like the Pittsburgh Steelers…We’re looking forward to the regular season starting. But the draft was kind of rough this year.” – Paul Heath, Mehlville

“I’ve watched a little bit of baseball and the stock market. I don’t know what it did today, but it’s been killing me, killing people. It’s been very, very poor.” –Rick Simmon, Affton

“This week it’s been Hurricane Irene. I’m a weather junkie, could’ve-should’ve-would’ve been my vocation. I like the randomness (of hurricanes). You can never tell quite where they’ll head. It fascinates me that people still live in their path, in million-dollar homes…And that they can be a Cat 1 one day and a Cat 3 the next.” –Eric Scott, Lake Saint Louis
