According to William A. Niskanen, one of the architects of Reaganomics, "Reagan delivered onRead More each of his four major policy objectives, although not to the extent that he and his supporters had hoped", and notes that the most substantial change was in the tax code, where the top marginal individual income tax rate fell from 70.1% to 28.4%, and there was a "major reversal in the tax treatment of business income", with effect of "reducing the tax bias among types of investment but increasing the average effective tax rate on new investment". Roger Porter, another architect of the program, acknowledges that the program was weakened by the many hands that changed the President's calculus, such as Congress.[2][21] President Reagan, has remained popular as an antitax hero despite raising taxes eleven times over the course of his presidency, all in the name of fiscal responsibility.[22] Reagan ultimately raised taxes more times than he cut them.[23] According to Paul Krugman, "Over all, the 1982 tax increase undid about a third of the 1981 cut; as a share of GDP, the increase was substantially larger than Mr. Clinton's 1993 tax increase."[10] According to historian and domestic policy adviser Bruce Bartlett, Reagan's tax increases over the course of his presidency took back half of the 1981 tax cut. Though since the Reagan tax reductions, top marginal tax rates have remained lower than at any point in US history since 1931, when the top marginal rate was raised from 25% to 63%. [24]

It's not the number of times that count, it's the size of the resulting cuts, and txes dropped underRead More Reagan, and economy boomed. Reagan's tax increases were part of a deal with Democrats to reduce spending. The taxes went up but the spending cuts never occurred. Just like Reagan's amnesty was supposed to be tied to border enforcement. Reagan's two biggest mistakes involved trusting Democrats to hold up their end of the deal. Those of us who remember that will never be fooled again.

Let's get to the point. What Jon Daniel tweeted was not true parody (or impersonation) at all.Read More Political parody should mimic the target's personality and actions, not present unrealistic scenarios that bear no resemblance to his behavior. For an example of true parody, see the Onion's current take-off of Eric Cantor. What Daniel did was nasty and unimaginative.

Does anyone ever ask about the annual cost to do this? Signing (Applications) on the dotted lineRead More does not define "success". Over 50 million people are losing their health care plans, while articles like this attempt to show how a mere application leads to "Success". The future choices? A) Obamacare- A Free public insurance Plan or B) Private-care-- A Privately paid insurance plan. Does this look familiar to all.? Does Public Education vs Private education choices ring a bell. Yep! a Public insurance system will cost the first $20,000 of each wage earners incomes. Like our Education system, that cost will be passed on to every business in America. The people will never notice it. Business Penalties and taxes will rise to $6,000 per employee in order to support "FREE" medical insurance. The income tax system is dead. Our congress now just forces the spending directly on businessess. Just make businesses pay for "Freebies" and then we could Blame those big bad employers for raising prices to pay for all these "freebies". That's what steps 1-2-3 will lead to. 1-2-3 in America is a "STRIKEOUT"!

And now we are all seeing the definition of "FREE" change right before your eyes. Free nowRead More means "You don't have to pay for it". No sir, let someone else buy the first suit, you'll take the next 2 free ones. So, we need 7 million suckers to Buy the first suite (Bronze plan) and the freebies come after that. That's the new capitalism in America. We even have FREE Kindergarten available to a limited number of people, as if no one is paying for it. Classrooms manned by "volunteer workers". Supplies , heat lights, power janitors all working FREE. Even a Bank robber now fits the definition of getting something Free. He gets reimbursed for everything he buys. That makes it "free". (As if there is no one who provided the stolen funds.) He gets all his living expenses paid by someone else. So, the Affordable care act becomes the legal way to turn your cheek the other way, while the Government steals money from businesses (Through taxation) to pay the new "welfare" in America (conspicuously titled Affordable care, when in fact there is not one ounce of CARE in BUYING INSURANCE . Yes! I think Americans will opt into a "free" plan. It's free becomes the new American Mantra--I actually see people flock to get their "free" casino handouts only after they Play approximately $1,000 per month to qualify. Free shirts, turkeys pots pans etc.. I hope all 300 million Americans opt into the Free Obamacare plan. Let me offer a question and answer. If 300mil people Get medical insurance Free, and it cost $5,000 per year, fully paid by the Government, does anyone out there know who would send the Govt the necessary $1.5 TRil every year to make it Free. Either more businesses will close shop or will raise prices and that folks--Makes YOU the ultimate Payer of what you think is free. As a matter of fact, the people that could least afford higher living costs will be paying way much more percentage of their incomes for what they think is free. Someone forgot to tell the Doctors and Nurses and Hospitals and wheelchair and Kidney Dialysis machine manufacturers, that They must now WORK FREE because people cannot afford their products or services. Blame the insurance companies for higher premiums, don't blame your Lifestyle for racking up unnecessary CLAIMS that the insurance must pay. Ultimately, all the Government could give you is FREE INSURANCE NOT FREE HEALTH CARE. (only a Doctor could do that) The only thing Bronze about Insurance premiums is the pouch your policy comes in. I would really wonder how a "Bronze" Insurance plan certificate could perform Surgery when you need it. Fools now outnumber those who are financially supporting this new "welfare". I am reminded of that song- appropriately titled "FOOLS RUSH IN" "Where wisemen never go". Scary--Aren't I.?????? But Paul REVERE warnings always scare the uninformed. Over 90 mil people will lose their employer sponsored Health plans. It is "coming within the next 2 years. All now exempt employers with under 50 employees will be reduced to under 25 employees within 5 years. Penalties of $2,000 will be raised to $4,000 per employee within 5 years. MY BIGGEST WARNING FOR UNION GROWTH! IT will Melt away! There will be no need for union sponsored Health plans starting 2016 because most of the workforce will be forced into Govt exchanges right out of College. They will have Zero needs to join any union. (Since health care is the current major reason unions exist) I seek no responses, I am here to Warn and inform.

Paul, we get the point that you object to your tax dollars being used to fund an educational systemRead More that neither need nor support. My questions to you are what are you going to do about it, and what can you do to bring people more in line with your way of thinking?
PaulRevere November 7, 2013 at 05:09 pm
Larry: You have it all wrong. I support a "Free" public education system. That's what theRead More Missouri constitution says. "public schools" it says. "Ages up to 21" Look it up. It's very clear. However Liberalism takes the Mandate of "Free" and turns it into a "union controlled money machine". (Called TAXATION). Our state of Missouri is mandated to pay 25% of it's annual revenue toward the Public school system. So, we all paid to start and run our schools through state taxes. I agree with all that. My contribution to public schools is in the state coffers like everyone else. Our Real estate taxes were never a big deal, because the schools ran on state support Unfortunately, that has changed drastically. While it's free to attend a public school , it has been TAXED through Auto personal property and real estate taxes. Then came lotto ,tobacco, casino fees and rate of business taxes that now stand at double the individual homeowner rates. So I object to the "COST" of running what should be "Free". That cost of running these schools has been hijacked by "union styled labor and benefits". That's it. I object to having to pay excessively higher education taxes that are needed only for Raises and massive pensions Nowhere near what the private Teacher market is valued in this Missouri state. As a matter of fact, I would challenge any current public school teacher with 15 years experience to go out and find an equivalent paying job with benefits in any private market. It was not always that way. So, please understand what I object to. The law says "Free Public schools", while I say "AT WHAT COST". That door must be exposed. 1) All Missouri public school Educators (superintendents, principals etc ) must immediately be asked to join the social security system, like all other workers in America. 2) "Free Public school Education" needs to be defined (personal Retirement pension and transportation of students needs to be charged to the users of our public schools) 3) Any public school pay scales higher than our private Teacher market compensation should be Charged to those users of public school services. 4) Businesses and their owners in any school district should have voting rights to any tax rate increases. 5) All athletic activities should have a charge for those who use that extra curricular activity. 6) End All labor contracts that include age 58 retirements immediately for all new hires. How is that for starters? Unless we start , this country will be forever "slaves" to Educators. It's amazing how a majority of people who no longer need public school would be coerced into paying more and more for a product they do not need. They have no idea they are indeed still paying for education without any increases through our states 25% fund.. I really cannot do much about it until people in all districts understand the massive pays and benefits they are supporting for what should be "Free". The teacher unions plead "poverty pay levels" (A TOTAL LIE!). And the mass public believes it. 99% of the public does not even understand how Real estate tax hikes also make your auto tax rates go up. The rate increases are lied , when the media tells us only one side. Any tax rate increase this year also will make your Auto taxes go up.That is substantial. In the meantime, Educating the many residents who think that schools are actually "free" will be done. I have a branch belief. One person today , two next, 4 next etc. Larry: It's not "My Way of Thinking" It's the way it is. So, if you note that it is my way of thinking , would you please point out anything I said here that is not true. Can you start by justifying how Parents really need free Transportation for their child in this 21st century? Do you really think 99% of the people own a Car? Do you believe most would gladly pay a $100 fee for transportation? That's not "my way of thinking"-- That's a fact. The fact that you ask is a start. Hopefully, you are sincere.

A more refreshing change is Tony Pousosa. We need more than a Name Change, we need a GameRead More Changer!!!. Charlie Dooley has shown he is not up to the job. And arguably, neither is Steve Stenger. He has been on the County Council for 4 years... and now he wants to change the procurement policies of St Louis County; now he wants audit all of the accounts. Where was Steve about this earlier when Dooley wanted ti close the parks. Stenger made a stink about it. But did he look into why the county was having money problems?? This is a CPA and a lawyer. He was just making points. He did not change the game. Tony Pousosa is an experienced and capable civic leader. He has been an Alderman in Green Park, served on Planning & Zoning Commission. He is very knowledgeable about municipal issues as member of the Legislative Affairs committeeman of the St. Louis County Municipal League.
