Affton businesses filled the Affton High School commons Thursday for the annual Community and Business Expo. The Affton Chamber of Commerce organized the event, which offered tastings from restaurants like Syberg's, Kenrick's Meats & Catering and St. Louis Bread Company as well as exhibits from other businesses. The new offices of the business advocate organization are at 9815 Mackenzie Road, near the Affton White-Rogers Community Center. The chamber's new phone number is 314-631-3100. The Affton Chamber of Commerce has a new home! Here are the details, from director Joan Edleson: The Affton Chamber of Commerce has officially moved to 9815 Mackenzie Road from its previous offices at 10203 Gravois Road. Our new phone number is 314.631.3100. We will be open from December 18-21 from 9-1 and then we will close until after the 1st of the year. It was a huge move and we have a lot of organizing to do. Moving during the holiday season doesn't help, but we will have our Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting when the weather is a little better. Watch for details. We hope to be back online soon so we can update our web site, but in the meantime, have patience--we will be back operating in a normal manner soon.

UPDATE: Just kidding. They are now postponed. Other cities may be canceling their Fourth of July fireworks celebrations due to the hot, dry weather, but so far, the annual JB Blast celebration is still on. "There are no plans to cancel JB Blast," said St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger. "It's going to be really dry, but I think we are going to be OK." Stenger will be singing the national anthem at the event, which draws as many as 20,000 people each year. Stenger addressed residents' cancellation fears at an Affton Chamber of Commerce event today, adding that the annual fireworks show draws people from around the St. Louis area. The Affton Chamber of Commerce has launched an online commercial real estate database to further economic development and growth within the Affton community.
The Affton Chamber of Commerce launched an online commercial property database, making it easy for businesses with an eye on Affton to find the perfect location. “With this new tool, we have the ability to promote the Affton community to possible new businesses”, said the Affton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Joan Edleson, according to Fox 2 Now. “The database will help to establish Affton as a community that is continuously looking for growth opportunities, regardless of challenging economic times." Affton honors its Citizen of the Year and Business Person of the Year.
More than 250 guests filled the Two Hearts Banquet Center on Saturday night for the 19th annual Affton Chamber of Commerce Auction and Awards Banquet. The event featured a "Seven Wonders of the World" theme, and guests enjoyed bidding, dinner, and a chance to honor a few of Affton’s upstanding citizens. The Citizen of the Year award, presented by Affton Chamber of Commerce President Timothy Kinealy, went to Shirley Eckert, an outstanding volunteer in the Affton community. Kinealy spoke of Eckert’s volunteerism at Seven Holy Founders—cleaning the church, making bereavement lunches, and serving as a Eucharistic minister. Eckert serves as a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ladies Sodality, as a member of the Peregrine Society she makes …

Friends, family, and fellow teachers gathered at the Orlando Gardens Banquet Center on Thursday night to recognize the hard work of 14 outstanding Affton educators. The Eighth Annual Exceptional Educators Awards Banquet was organized by the Affton Chamber of Commerce. The Bayless and Affton school districts, Cor Jesu Academy, Lutheran High School South, Our Lady of Providence, Saint Dominic Savio, Salem Lutheran, and Seven Holy Founders School were all represented. “These educators teach our children to read, they teach them how to be people of character,” said awards presenter Ann Bollone of St. Anthony’s Medical Center. “And these children grow up to be strong community members.
