Election Results 2012: Englund Beats Brown by 306 Votes

Democrat Vicki Lorenz-Englund won the Missouri House of Representatives' newly redrawn 94th district by 306 votes over Republican incumbent Cloria Brown.

In one of the closest races in South County, Democrat Vicki Englund defeated Republican incumbent Cloria Brown for the Missouri House of Representatives' newly redrawn 94th district, which covers Mehlville and parts of Green Park and Concord. "I'm still in shock," Englund said. "I still think I should go out and door-knock." Englund won by only 306 votes out of almost 17,000. The election marked round three in an ongoing political battle between Englund and Brown. In 2008, Englund defeated Brown in an election to represent the 85th District, which previously included all or parts of Mehlville, Lemay and Affton, among other sections of South County. The two candidates faced off again in 2010, when Brown won the election.  "Two years ago I …

Third Time Around for Brown and Englund in November

Republican Cloria Brown and Democrat Vicki Englund will vie for the 94th District, covering Mehlville and parts of Affton for the third time.

Mehlville's Rep. Cloria Brown defeated Tim Hotop in the Republican primary Tuesday night and will face Democrat Vicki Englund for the third time in November.  Brown was an incumbent who captured 2,174 or 75.46 percent of the votes. She celebrated with friends and family at an election party at Two Hearts Banquet Center on Lindbergh Boulevard. "I'm lucky that I'm blessed with a great work ethic, a lot of stamina and a very supportive husband," she said after the victory.  Hotop did not respond to requests for comments.   Looking ahead to the November election Brown's victory sets up a well-established November rematch with Englund, who won unopposed in the primary.  In 2008, Englund defeated Brown in an election to represent the 85th …

South County Lawmakers React to Affordable Health Care Act Ruling

The Supreme Court’s ruling was one of the topics discussed at Thursday night’s town hall meeting with State Representatives Marsha Haefner and Cloria Brown.

Thursday night, in a town hall meeting meant to be dedicated for a review of the last state legislative session, the topic of the Supreme Court’s decision on health care took over the night’s discussion. The discussion over health care law, however, didn’t happen until about an hour or so into the meeting, after Missouri Representatives Marsha Haefner (R-100) and Cloria Brown (R-85) gave a rundown of the latest Missouri Congress session. It was after that when a 16-year-old got up to ask how the health care bill would affect Missouri in the future. “That’s a great question for a 16-year-old,” said a member of the audience as some cheered and clapped for the young man. Thursday morning’s Supreme Court ruling was not popular among the public…

Before the Affordable Care Act I couldn't even buy health insurance, now I can. The cost controls of the Affordable Care Act will help to bring down the ever rising cost of medicine. Lembke is out of his greedy little mind. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15596592/The%20New%20Golden%20Rule.jpg   more ›

Akin and Brunner Take the Stump at South County Forum

U.S. Senate candidates Todd Akin and John Brunner mixed it up with in Oakville, along with candidates for the U.S. House, and a good handful of state-level hopefuls.

Missouri’s senior U.S. senator, Claire McCaskill, will face a conservative Republican for her seat in November. The question is, will it be Rep. Todd Akin, a representative since 2001 who is giving up his congressional seat to run for the senate, or St. Louis businessman John Brunner? Both Akin and Brunner were both at a Republican forum Thursday night at the Cliff Cave branch of the St. Louis County Library. More than 100 folks came on the frigid evening to the event sponsored by the Tesson Ferry Township Republican Club. Each candidate running for office had five minutes to make his case. Akin and Brunner were first on the docket. Akin explained how the deficit budget is heading the United States down the wrong path. He said if we got …
