Mother Charged With Assaulting Daughter Over Text Messages

St. Louis County Police said Hedija Jahic punched her daughter several times, and hit and tried to choke her with an electrical cord.

AFFTON, MO -- A South County woman punched her daughter, and choked and struck her with an electrical cord at their home in Affton on March 27, according to a police statement. Hedija Jahic, 33, became angry with her daughter after reviewing text messages from the girl’s boyfriend, according to a court document. She then punched the girl several times, wrapped the electrical cord around her neck and tried to choke her and struck her several times with the cord, according to a St. Louis County Police report. The woman also called her names, police said. Jahic, of the 4400 block of Mohegan Drive, was charged Monday with two counts of third-degree assault. Jahic was released from St. Louis County jail March 31. Bail was set at $20,000. For …

Accidental Shooting at Cedar Creek Lodge in Affton

One man was hospitalized following the 12:30 p.m. shooting.

A man was shot Thursday afternoon at the Cedar Creek Lodge condo complex on Olde English Road in Affton. Police and crime scene officials were seen outside 7784 Olde English, one of the first buildings in the complex. It houses apartments 73-96, according to a sign on the building. Lieutenant Bryan Ludwig of the St. Louis County Police told Patch the shooting was accidental. "Two gentlemen in their 20s were playing with a loaded handgun, which they did not believe was loaded, and it went off," Ludwig said. "The victim was shot in the shoulder. Seven Holy Founders Parishioner Charged With Stealing from Concession Stand

Stacy Funke, 30, was charged March 5 with stealing more than $500.

A parishioner working the concession stand at Seven Holy Founders has been charged with stealing from the church.  Stacy Funke, 30, was working the game during a girls' basketball game, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  Prosecutors charged Funke, of the 7100 block of Cheshire Lane, on March 5 with stealing more than $500. According to the Post, Funke was working the concession stand during a tournament on Dec. 2, 2012, when an envelope went missing from a cabinet inside the gym. Funke then confessed to police that she stole the envelope, containing about $840, according to court documen, using the money to pay outstanding bills and other family expenses. Bail was set at $7,500, the Post reports.

Police Respond to Domestic Disturbance, Find Stolen Firearm

Thomas O'Leary was charged with domestic assault and receiving stolen property.

Police responding to a domestic disturbance also located a stolen firearm in an Affton home Feb. 25. Thomas O’Leary, 45, of the 9300 block of Althea Avenue in Affton, was charged Feb. 26 with third-degree domestic assault and receiving stolen property. St. Louis County Police said O’Leary struck his girlfriend, causing visible bruising, and attempts to choke the woman. While at the home at about 6:38 p.m. Feb. 25, officers found a 30-06 Remington hat had been reported stolen. O’Leary posted a $7,500 bond and was released from St. Louis County Justice Center Feb. 28. 75-Year-Old Man Molested Girl, Police Say

The South County man, Ron Meredith Hook, was charged with first-degree child molestation and two counts of sexual misconduct.

A 75-year-old South County man faces sex crimes with a young girl over a six-year period, police said. Ron Meredith Hook, 75, was charged March 4 with two counts of first-degree child molestation, sexual misconduct with a child younger than 15 years old, and first-degree sexual misconduct. St. Louis County Police said that between Jan. 31, 2006 and Oct. 21, 2012, Hook touched the girl with his penis without her consent.  Police said Hook also watched the girl and her boyfriend having sex and exposed himself to the girl while touching his genitals. Man Threw Stolen Handgun Out of Window as Officers Stopped Car, Police Say

St. Louis County Police said the gun had been stolen hours earlier in a burglary.

A man faces stealing charges after throwing a handgun out a car window Feb. 1 as St. Louis County Police pulled the car over. Daniel A. Jones, 30, of Foristell, was charged Feb. 2 with receiving stolen property. St. Louis County Police said they were pulling a car over Feb. 1 when Jones, a passenger in the car, threw a revolver out of the window on Interstate 55 near Bayless Avenue in South County. Police said the handgun had been stolen in a burglary hours earlier. Jones was being held Wednesday in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $35,000, cash only.
