Patch will send questionnaires to candidates running in the Shrewsbury aldermanic races and Affton Fire Protection District race. What questions should we include?

Two contested elections will highlight many of our local ballots in Affton and Shrewsbury on Election Day in April.  Residents living within the Affton Fire Protection District will see three candidates vying for one seat on the district's board. In Shrewsbury, incumbent Elmer Kauffmann will face challenger Tim Gabrian in a race to represent the city's first ward as alderman.  Aldermanic candidates also are running in Shrewsbury's second and third wards, though those races are uncontested.  As we approach the election, Patch will send each candidate a questionnaire to help empower voters to cast their ballots for the candidates they believe in. And we would like to include all of you in the process.  What questions do you have for the …

Would You Support Higher Taxes for Arch and Parks Improvements?

One item on your April 2013 ballot might be a plan to raise sales taxes across St. Louis to pay for improvements in area parks and at the Gateway Arch.

When the April 2013 election arrives, you might be asked to vote on a potential hike to sales taxes in the city of St. Louis and both St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Keep this in mind. Custodian Saves Poll Worker after Heart Attack on Election Day

Emira Adilovic saved the life of a poll worker who collapsed in a heart attack as the polls closed on Election Day. The man died Friday after spending time with his family in the hospital.

A custodian at Gotsch Intermediate School used CPR and a defibrillator to stabilize a poll worker who had a heart attack just after the polls closed on Election Day. Emira Adilovic’s quick action kept the poll worker alive during the approximately 20 minutes needed for the fire department to arrive and transport the worker to the hospital. The poll worker, whom the custodians know only as George, died Friday after four days in the hospital. Tears well in Adilovic’s eyes when she thinks of the death of a man she tried so hard to save. “I am sad,” said Adilovic, who was born in Bosnia, “but I am happy because he had time with his family.” Jumping into action Tim Showers, another custodian at Gotsch, had just closed the building at the end of…
