Danielle Spath may be a chiropractor by profession, but she's working hard to battle breast cancer, a cause close to her heart.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an Affton chiropractor is doing what she can to battle the disease. Danielle Spath owns and operates the recently opened Spine and Joint Center of Affton, located at 8005 Mackenzie Road. This month marks her mother's 10 year anniversary of surviving stage three breast cancer, so Spath is working the the entire month of October to raise funds to fight the disease. "I never thought that was something you would just get," Spath tells Patch. However, that is what happened to her mother who was diagnosed on Halloween 2002. When I volunteer at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery, I'm always surprised by how much the children seem to need me. Here I am, a total stranger, but they still push past each other for the chance to be held, rocked, sung to, cuddled until they fall asleep. Volunteering for the Nursery is easy, in a way. It's like babysitting, but the social workers do the actual hard work (like disciplining, making dinner, etc.) All I have to do is play, hug and smile at little ones who seem desperate for positive attention. We are still allowing participants to register for the walk, which is one week from today. It will take place on Sunday, October 28th from 11am to 1pm.
