Two maked men armed with handguns are still at large after robbing the Family Dollar at Mackenzie and Gravois roads Monday night, according to Patch news partners Fox2NOW. The suspects wore sunglasses, and one wore a grey hoodie when they robbed the store around 9:15 p.m. They made off with an undisclosed amount of money. Police said a female employee suffered minor injuries after being hit in the head with a handgun, Fox2Now said. MORE CRIME NEWS

The now vacant former site of Jo-Ann Fabrics at 8748 Mackenzie Road may soon be filled by a new Family Dollar store—much to the dismay of some Patch readers on Facebook. Painters were out touching up the outside of the building on Tuesday, and confirmed that the owner was planning to open a new Family Dollar in the location, which has been empty since last summer. Mary Leeper, whose family runs the nearby Dairy Queen at the corner of Mackenzie Road and Gravois Road, said the landlord, Ray White, was still working on getting permits and approval from St. Louis County. “I think it would be nice, don’t you? I would love to see a more upscale business in that area, but honestly, those corners look dumpy, every one of those businesses need to update and clean up, a Starbucks or Trader J's is never going to move into an area that looks like that, you can tell the home owners work really hard around there to look good, many of the businesses are unfair to the hard work of the homeowners.   more ›
