Affton Fire District: Smoke in the Kitchen at Cafe Affton

The Affton Fire Protection District said there was some smoke behind an ice cooler.

Affton Fire Protection District responded Monday morning to a small fire at Cafe Affton. The fire trucks arrived on scene around 9:45 a.m. Fire Chief Jim Fritz said there was some smoke behind an ice cooler in the restaurant's kitchen.  There was not a fire, said assistant chief Ben Waser. The fire protection district is leaving two pumper trucks on the scene, and engineers are examining the wiring behing the restaurant's coolers.

Affton Fire Protection District Hosts Open House

The District barbecued and handed out over 200 hot dogs, chips and drinks thanks to Kenrick’s Meats and Catering. Firefighters gave tours of the engine house and the emergency equipment.

Shrewsbury Firefighters Assist in Battling Clayton House Fire

Fire broke out at a home in the 6400 block of Cecil Avenue around 4 a.m.

A home in Clayton went up in flames early Friday morning, but officials report all the residents made it out safely. The Clayton Fire Department battled a a two-alarm at a two-story home in the 6400 block of Cecil Avenue. The fire reportedly started around 4:30 a.m. According to KMOV, crews from Shrewsbury, Richmond Heights, Brentwood Fire Department and Ladue fire departments assisted in the containing the flames. Clayton Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Paul V. Mercurio said University City Fire Department, Webster and City of St. Louis crews also assisted with the blaze. Video: New Ambulances, Promotions at Affton Fire Protection District

The Affton Fire Protection District held a special ceremony Friday night to promote six firefighters and initiate the firehouse's two new ambulances into service. Six firefighters were sworn-in to new roles at the district: The fire protection district also started a new tradition to officially begin the service of the two new ambulances, which the district bought after a long campaign for a tax increase last year. Three teams of firefighters worked together to push the ambulances—Ambulance #1117, which will stay at the Gravois firehouse, and Ambulance 1137, which will stay at Firehouse 3—into the docking bay.  Assistant Fire Chief Ben Wasser said the new tradition brought firefighters together to work as a team and mark the beginning of …

Man Sets Off Smoke Alarm at Hotel, Busted for Meth in Motel the Next Day

Police found methamphetamine on a room occupant at the South County Holiday Inn after a smoke alarm was triggered in the room, then find the same renter at a meth lab at the Super 8 in Fenton.

A South County man who set off smoke alarms in a hotel Sunday while attempting to make methamphetamine was arrested the next day for trying to make meth in another motel room, police said. Stephen L. Langendorf, 19, of the 5700 block of Wieland Drive in South County, was charged Tuesday with two counts of possessing a meth precursor with intent to manfacture methamphetamine. St. Louis County Police said a smoke alarm was triggered Sunday at the Holiday Inn at 4234 Butler Hill Drive in Langendorf’s room. Police found meth ingredients and emptied pseudoephedrine blister packs in the room and found meth on one of the room’s occupants.
