See which students were recognized for their character this month.
Students at Gotsch Intermediate School in Affton strive to embody the school’s character traits on a daily basis. Those who do and are “caught” demonstrating good character by teachers and staff members are entered into a monthly drawing to attend a special Pizza With Principals celebration with Brian Smith, principal, and Rose Davis, assistant principal. The character traits for Gotsch Intermediate School include Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Cooperation, Courageousness, Commitment, Reliability and Self-Control. A 15-year-old member of Boy Scout Troop 352 out of Kirkwood completed a service project for Gotsch Intermediate School as part of his quest to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America.

The Affton School District has been working on a Facebook page, and now it's are ready to unveil it to the world.
Like the Affton School District? Now you can "Like" it as well. Affton Schools has a new Facebook page for the district to provide updates about school meetings and events. Just click the link and hit the "Like" button to add them to your Facebook newsfeed. As of Wednesday afternoon, the page had 49 "likes." Erica Chandler, a parent in the district who works in marketing, has volunteered to help out with the page, and will be assisting with the district's public relations in general. Some individual Affton schools already have Facebook pages, some of them with several hundred fans. Mesnier Primary School has the most popular page, with 226 fans. The program helps parents and families better get to know Gotsch staff.
Gotsch Intermediate School has received a Promising Practices award from the Character Education Partnership (CEP). The Promising Practices program recognizes schools and districts that have developed specific, unique and effective educational practices that promote character development. Gotsch won the award for its practice of creating “family flags” at the beginning of last school year. Staff members made a picture collages of themselves, which included pictures of their family and activities they enjoy. The staff then hung these collages up in the main hallway for the first two weeks of school. These collages help students and parents feel more familiar with the Gotsch staff and were quite popular at the school’s open house. Gotsch …
