Affton Salon Offers Hope Along with Haircuts

Nu-Image Salon in Affton provides free haircuts to the needy through its "Give Back to the Community" program.

On Dec. 6, Rosetta Cubb opened early to provide free haircuts and styling to the homeless, unemployed, or simply down-on-their-luck—just as she has one Monday a month since she opened Nu-Image Salon three years ago.  On those first Mondays of the month, from 7 to 10 a.m., Cubb's shop on Gravois offers her "Give Back to the Community" program. "Oh, Cynthia, she's come in for services," said Cubb, flipping through her appointment book. "What a great lady. Her whole family comes in now. Oh, and Marie, she got laid off from a local chocolate company, I believe." Rosa Johnson of South St. Louis has been taking her family to Cubb as she tries to make ends meet.
