Lindbergh wrestling defeats Mehlville on Senior Night at Lindbergh High School, 60-12, as it takes advantage of several forfeits .
With Mehlville having to forfeit five matches because they didn’t have wrestlers to fill each weight class, Lindbergh wrestling coach Josh Hansel knew all his team needed to do was win one match to clinch the Senior Night duel Wednesday at Lindbergh High School. Just 32 seconds into the first round, they got it, with Lindbergh’s Tom Korenak pinning the Panthers’ Jarrath Foster in the 125-pound match. “That was probably the quickest we’ve won a duel,” Hansel joked. “We were just trying to get better in a lot of positions, and I thought we did a pretty good job tonight. Lindbergh junior wrestler Michael Slyman is hoping to surpass the impressive records of his father, Mike, who is a former Lindbergh state champion wrestler.
After losing his first match of the season two weeks ago in overtime during a tournament in Lee Summit, Lindbergh High School junior wrestler Michael Slyman used the long car ride back to St. Louis to tell his dad he had all the motivation he needed for the stretch run. The elder Slyman dominated the high school wrestling scene in the 1970s, just as his son is doing now. He took second place in his junior year, and won the state championship his senior season after going 27-3-1. Now he’s a proud parent, watching as his son attempts to join him on the banners …

At the end, however, Eureka rolled off five straight pins to finish the night with a dominating 47-23 win. Lindbergh won five of eight matches to start the duel, highlighted by 152-pound Michael Slyman's 17-1 win over Shane Glascott. Slyman is now 15-0 for the season as he looks to improve upon his fourth place finish at State last year. Sam Stinebrook (125 pounds) and Tom Korenak (130 pounds) also won for Lindbergh early on before the night turned in Eureka's favor. Luke Gentry started the comeback for Eureka, pinning Lindbergh's Lars Anderson in the 160-pound weight class. Luke Arnevik (171 pounds), …
