MODOT: With Wintry Weather in the Forecast, Give Crews Room to Work

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports on the St. Louis area work zones for February 28 - March 6.

The Missouri Department of Transportation warns that crews may be out treating roadways and plowing in the coming week. Drivers give the trucks plenty of room to work. Commuters should also be aware of changing roadway conditions, especially in the mornings. They should slow down, and be prepared for possible ice, especially on ramps and bridges. As the weather clears, maintenance workers will be completing needed roadway maintenance, such as pavement repairs and crack sealing. Please watch for slow moving or stopped vehicles with flashing lights in traffic lanes. 1.) With the increased traffic on the Daniel Boone Bridge due to lane closures on the Blanchette, why did they decide to do blasting now? It doesn't make sense to have closures on one of the alternate routes. Drivers in the Lake St. Louis/Wentzville area do not have easy access to the Page extension. 2.) How much extra time should we plan in our commutes due to blasting?   more ›

MoDOT Urges Motorists to Minimize Travel Thursday Due to Icy Winter Storm

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports its St. Louis work zones for February 21-27.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for the possibility of an intense winter weather mix over the next 24 hours, but there are many work zones scheduled this week once the roads are clear. Since Thursday’s winter storm will include ice, it will significantly impact travel. Those impacts will last until long after precipitation stops. This storm will create rapidly changing road conditions. Motorists should minimize travel if possible. Those who must travel, be prepared to remain at your destination long-term. Be sure to allow plenty of time if traveling and give snow plows plenty of room to work. MoDOT has full crews (approximately 400 employees and 200 trucks) that are ready for the snow and ice mixture. Crews have been…

Thursday Storm Gives Way To Cleanup; Many Schools Cancel Friday Classes

Some areas saw as much as 6 inches of snow, sleet and frozen precipitation.

A Thursday forecast of snow, sleet and other freezing precipitation that largely followed through as predicted will see Missouri Department of Transportation and other municipal street crews working into Friday to get ready for the morning commute. That, along with a National Weather Service forecast that called for additional nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch, has led many school districts, including Parkway, Rockwood and Ft. Zumwalt among many others, to cancel classes Friday. Our news partners at FOX2 have a complete list of school closings. MoDOT Engineer Becky Allmeroth told Patch that the amount of snow was the part of the forecast that didn't follow as planned. Either way, MoDOT said beforehand that it …
