1-Month-Old Affton Breakfast & Burger Now Beats 3-Year-Old Boardwalk Café in Sales

The new place sells three times as many burgers as the first, and it's the same owner and menu.

Affton Breakfast & Burger has the same menu and owner as the well-known Boardwalk Café, in Webster Groves. Breakfast & Burger opened its doors a month ago at 10024 Gravois Road, and already has passed up the three-year-old Webster restaurant in sales. The burgers are the reason. Get the scoop with the Patch newsletter! “Four guys–all we do is cook burgers, especially from 11:45 to close,” owner Ismail Ilhan said. He has 17 tables and a lunch crowd with a limited time to eat, and most order burgers. The restaurant is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week. “Just to cook that burger, if you want a decent fresh burger, takes 10 minutes, and usually people don’t have that much time,” Ilhan said. He'd love to build up the breakfast crowd …

Really wish they were open for dinner but I guess they know what is best for their business. Burgers & Omlets are great!!!! Didn't care so much for the gyro seemed like the meat came out of a package and not sliced off of a rotissery. But because of the hours can only go on weekends... seem to go almost every weekend.   more ›

Affton Breakfast & Burger Opened on Monday: "Burgers Right and Left"

The owner said breakfast will build slowly, but lunch has been crazy.

Affton Breakfast & Burger opened on Monday and so far has kept the char broiler busy with burgers. Owner Ismail Ilhan said lunchtime has been crazy. "Yesterday all we were doing was burgers right and left. I have three cooks and I had to go help," Ilhan said. He even ran out of meat. "I had to call the food company, and I said, 'Emergency, send me ground beef.'" Ilhan said breakfast needs to pick up a bit, and it will as more people hear about it. He doesn't advertise. He said "worker guys" are the first to arrive for breakfast then the seniors come. It took three years to build up the business at The Boardwalk Café, his restaurant in Webster Groves, he said. Breakfast & Burger has the same menu. Breakfast & Burger is in the previous …

New Affton Business is Welcomed to the Community

Despite blowing snow, the Affton Diner drew a crowd for its ribbon-cutting ceremony last Tuesday.

Jonathan Aka, owner of the recently opened Affton Diner, cut the ribbon on his new business last Tuesday. Aka supplied coffee and doughnuts for crowd, who came from Affton businesses and the St. Louis County Police Department. “Most famous is my potatoes,” he said, “But I never hear anybody say no to anything yet. I am more toward the German-style cooking, with good-quality ham and bacon.” Waitress Tamie Hunter said the two-egg breakfast with fried potatoes and ham, bacon or sausage for $5.19 is a best-seller. "Affton" is a Popular Name for Affton Restaurants: Confusion, Competition is the Result

Diners, dinners, breakfasts and soon to be burgers are all on Gravois Road and all named Affton.

Affton seems to be a popular name for eating establishments in the community of Affton – maybe too popular. At least three of them, all on Gravois Road, contain "Affton" in the name, and it's causing some confusion. In alaphabetical order, there's: The Cafe Affton Sports Bar & Grill has been in business eight years, and manager Julie Boyer said it hasn't been a problem for their customers. "We're kind of established," she said. "I don't understand (why they're all named Affton), it's like a complete lack of creativity." Affton Breakfast and Dinner opened in November, and manager Andy Sholla said there is confusion between his restaurant and Affton Diner, which opened its doors Jan. 15. "It's a headache," he said. "I get to-go orders, and I…

Still Young, Boodles BBQ Gaining Fans

You have to try the fried biscuits, say diners.

Boodles BBQ, Affton's newest smokehouse, serves some delicious meats, but it's the fried biscuits that set this place apart, say online reviewers. When we wrote last about restaurant opening last fall, Patch readers responded with enthusiasm and gusto, making it one of the top-read stories of the year. We thought we would check in to see what kind of online buzz Boodles had stirred up since it launched. Boodles earned a 4-out-of-5 star rating on Yelp and a 100 percent "I like it" rating on Urbanspoon, both sites where diners can rate restaurants. "The food was awesome and I'm impressed by how good it was, given that they just opened," Angela S. from St. Louis wrote on Yelp. "I can see me being a regular here." Boodles serves pork, brisket…
