Rogers students scratched a pig and petted a lamb.
Rogers Middle School nurse Kathy Beezley is also the program advisor for Fuel up to Play 60. She said one of the plays for Fuel up to Play 60 is From Farm to School. "I wanted the kids to understand how much work these farmers understand to bring them their food," she said. So she asked a Future Farmers of America group if they could bring some farm animals to the school. On Monday a dairy cow, heffer, pigs, rabbits, chickens, sheep, goats and retrieving dogs came the grounds of Rogers. A different FFA student was at each station to tell the Rogers students all about them. Join Affton-Shrewsbury Patch for more community news or join us on Facebook and Twitter.

The run/walk was organized to benefit the family of the Affton seventh grader.
Rogers Middle School seventh-grader Mitchell Herndon had 182 friends on Sunday. The Affton 5 was held in Affton Sunday morning and 182 came to the event, raising more than $5,000 to benefit Herndon and St. Louis Children's Hospital, where he's being treated. Herndon's health failed last year to the point where he couldn't even get up unassisted. His health is improving greatly with help from the St. Louis hospital. Did you take pictures? Add them to this article! See a video of the run on the KSDK website. Also on Patch:

LIVE FROM THE SITE: The great aunt of Christopher Marks, a 12-year-old boy who went missing Sunday evening, just found a lip balm shortly before 10:30 a.m. she believes to be Marks' along the road of the Pacific Palisades Conservation Area entrance.
Donna Sherman, great aunt to Christopher Marks, a 12-year-old boy who went missing Sunday evening in the Meramec River near Pacific and Eureka just found a particular tube of lip balm she believes to be her great-nephew's. Patch was on the scene when Sherman made the discovery. Marks is an Affton resident who attends seventh grade at Rogers Middle School. The significance of the lip balm, Sherman believes, is that it could mean Marks left the water and it fell out of his shorts pocket. Marks has a twin sister, Anna-Marie, who told Sherman she gave the lip balm to Christopher this weekend prior to the trip to the conservation area and river retreat. Anna-Marie described the chap stick over the phone to Scherman as having a red, white and …

Students toured the capitol, Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and more.
This summer, several Rogers Middle School students and their families left Affton with Jeff Remelius, principal of the school, for an adventure in Washington, DC. The trip, booked through Smithsonian Student Travel, was jam packed full of activities and sites for the students. After leaving St. Louis very early in the morning on June 16th, they arrived in Washington, and quickly went to the Smithsonian complex where they explored the museums at their own pace. After a quick dinner, the group met the rest of their travel companions from Iowa and Oregon, to explore different monuments at night. The trip included visits to US Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, World War II …

Two Rogers Middle School students choreographed a touchdown dance as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 challenge.
Making it through the school year deserves some celebration, so two Rogers Middle School students choreographed their own touchdown dance. The dance is part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 challenge, an anti-childhood obesity partnership between the National Dairy Council and the NFL to encourage children to eat healthy and exercise 60 minutes every day. Reja and Maria, the two girls dancing in the video, came to Rogers over the summer to help nurse Kathy Beezley, who has been active in the program since December 2010. Beelzey sent the video to Affton School District staff asking them to "show your support for health and wellness at Rogers" by watching the video. The school with the best touchdown dance will get an NFL player to dance at their …
