Depending on the type of degree you want to pursue, most local four-year colleges have online classes or a School of Professional Studies (for those non-traditional students). I second Ms. Abellard's statement about community college. It's a great way to get the basic courses completed at a great price. Photos: Affton High Artists Win Scholarships

Heather Rowland won a scholarship from Pasta House for her piece using pasta.

Affton High students Heather Rowland and Hannah Dorries were honored at Tuesday's Affton School Board meeting for their scholarship-winning art. Rowland recently received an award from Pasta House for her Marilyn Monroe portrait that used pasta as the hair. She also showed off a painting based on the HBO series "Band of Brothers." Dorries will be attending the prestigious Memphis Art Institute this fall and was awarded $62,000 in financial aid for her work.

Lutheran South Celebrates Past and Future at Graduation

Lutheran High School South class of 2011 held its graduation at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

Families and friends gathered at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Friday night to celebrate the graduation of the Lutheran High School South class of 2011, and they had a lot to celebrate. The small class of 131 students amassed $2.5 million in accepted scholarships and more than $3.5 million in unaccepted scholarship offerings. Forty-four students graduated as members of the Sabre Honor Society, 45 students graduated as members of the National Honor Society, and 14 students were recipients of the George Washington Carver Award. The class motto was, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths," from Walt Disney.
