Shewsbury Police: Car Break-Ins on Suffolk and Chapelford

An umbrella, credit card and sunglasses were among items stolen. This and other crimes were reported by the Shrewsbury Police Department in its weekly report.

The following information was supplied by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. Thursday, May 2 A Shrewsbury resident reported a credit card, some loose change and an umbrella stolen from her 2003 Honda when it was parked in the 7700 block of Suffolk Avenue. There was no forced entry into the vehicle. Police are tracing fraudulent purchases made on the stolen credit card. The owner said that she noticed someone had rummaged through her Honda on Monday, April 29, but she did not realize the credit card had been stolen until her credit card company noticed the unusual activity and notified her. Shrewsbury Police: Man Jailed on Multiple Charges After Night in South City Bar

Sunday, April 14 A South St. Louis City man was arrested for failing to dim his headlights and driving while intoxicated in the 7200 block of Watson Road at 12:10 a.m. The suspect’s breath sample was measured at .105% and he was issued citations to appear in municipal court.  Tuesday, April 16 Police issued citations to a Union, MO, woman for possession of drug paraphernalia and for speeding 79 MPH in a 60 MPH zone on eastbound Interstate 44 near Shrewsbury Avenue.  Thursday, April 18 A white or silver SUV sustained rear passenger side bumper damage after an accident on Kenrick Manor Drive …

Woman Reports 8 Fraudulent Credit Charges After Crestwood Schnucks Visit

The woman said $750 of merchandise was purchased in Pennsylvania. The report is among others reported by Shrewsbury Police.

The following information was supplied by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. On Friday, April 12, Shrewsbury Police investigated the fraudulent use of a credit device for a resident in the 7000 block of Rhodes Avenue in the Village of Mackenzie. The Schnucks in Affton, on 10070 Gravois Rd., was among more than 50 St. Louis area stores impacted by the recent security breach. The victim told police that she used her card at a Schnucks store in Crestwood and there were eight charges on her card on Thursday, April 11, with $750 of merchandise purchased at retail stores in Pennsylvania.  The woman had not traveled to Pennsylvania. After Blowing .162, Man Tells Police: "Okay, I'm Drunk"

Shrewsbury Police said the New Mexico man also had DWI convictions in Texas and Kansas.

A man who drove 30 mph on Interstate 44 while swerving across his driving lane now faces a drunk driving charge, Shrewsbury Police said. Dennis Jackson, 62, of Fruitland, NM, was charged Feb. 11 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a felony. Jackson has two previous DWI convictions, one in Texas in 2003 and another in Kansas in 1977. Shrewsbury Police reported that Jackson was driving 30 mph on I-44 at Shrewsbury Avenue while failing to maintain a single lane at 2:16 a.m. May 26. A patrolman pulled him over and noticed a strong odor of alcohol and saw Jackson had water and bloodshot eyes. Police said Jackson did poorly on a sobriety test, and a Breathalyzer test showed his blood-alcohol content was at 0.162 percent at …

She Didn't Turn Down the Lights; Was Arrested on Drug Charges

The following was reported by the Shrewsbury Police Department. Shrewsbury police arrested an Affton woman Dec. 28 on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the 7300 block of Weil Ave. after initially stopping her for failing to dim her high-beam headlights. Police who were called to investigate an argument Dec. 31 at a home in the 7300 blocik of Devonshire Ave. ultimately arrested a Bridgeton woman on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. Police are seeking a man and a woman who failed to pay a $44 bar tab and stole a woman's purse Jan. 2 from the St. Louis Sports Zone, 7435 Watson Road. The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a white Dodge Caravan.

Police: Man Caught on Camera, Charged with Stealing Meth Ingredient

Police said video surveillance captured the theft and helped identify the man.

A Eureka man was charged with stealing a bulk storage tank of anhydrous ammonia from a manufacturer in Shrewsbury. Robert K. Theiss, 41, of the first block of White Doe Court in Eureka, was charged Monday with theft of anhydrous ammonia by storage tank, a class A felony. Shrewsbury Police said Theiss was captured on video surveillance at about 5:38 a.m. Sept 3 stealing the storage tank from Carr Lane Manufacturing, 4200 Carr Lane. He was identified on the video, arrested and confessed to the theft, police said. Anhydrous ammonia is used in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine. Ex-Convict Had Handgun in Trunk, Police Say

Shrewsbury Police said he consented to a car search Nov. 11 following a traffic stop.

  A South St. Louis man faces a handgun charge after being stopped for a traffic violation Nov. 11 in Shrewsbury. Lavelle L. Brandon, 37, of the 1900 block of Senate Street in the city of St. Louis, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Shrewsbury Police said officers pulled over Brandon’s car at Kenrick Manor Drive and Trianon Parkway Drive on a traffic violation. Officers said he consented to a car search. The officer found a 9 mm Taurus handgun in the car’s trunk. Police said Brandon ran from the scene, but was caught by officers. Brandon was convicted of second-degree burglary in 1993 and is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Brandon posted a $30,000 bond and was released Nov. 14. For more crime information on Affton-…

Property Crime in Shrewsbury Drops 43 Percent in 6 Years

According to the FBI's 2011 Uniform Crime Report, crimes such as theft, car theft, burglary and arson have been nearly cut in half in the town since 2005.

When Shrewsbury police investigators questioned a man they thought might have committed a crime, he replied, “I wouldn’t go through your town. I got stopped last week just walking down the street at 2 a.m.” Lt. Brian Catlett of the Shrewsbury Police Department said that’s one reason crime has dropped dramatically in the city over the past 10 years. “I think being a small agency, our officers are so in touch with what goes on,” Catlett said. “In a bigger city, an officer might be on a particular beat for a couple of weeks. With us, our officers are here all the time, morning, noon and night.
