Gravois Road Blockbuster Not Included Among St. Louis-Area Closures

Dish Network is closing nine of 16 Blockbusters in the St. Louis area this spring, though the Affton store at Gravois and Mackenzie has been spared.

Dish Network Corp, which owns Blockbuster, plans to close nine stores in the St. Louis area this spring--though the location in Affton at Gravois and Mackenzie roads will remain open. The closures are part of an announced plan to close 300 stores across the country. According to a story in the Denver Post, the closures include stores which were underperforming or were near the end of their leases.  About 500 Blockbuster stores were closed last year including 10 of 26 locations in St. Louis area, according to a story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Planning to make a final stop at Johnny's Market, 11155 Gravois Rd., before its closing on Oct. 13? The store is open 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily with remaining goods being sold at 40 percent off. Owner Debbie Loeffelman said there's nothing special planned for the last day, but she does anticipate several longtime customers will come in and say goodbye.
