The Affton Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual spring barbecue Saturday on the Schnucks parking lot. The BBQ provides seed money for the Affton Community Days Parade to keep the parade a free event. There never has been a cost associated with entering the parade. Chamber Executive Director Joan Edleson said she hardly had a break in the day, selling the dinners, priced at $8. The Affton Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1947, currently has more than 300 members. Affton Days will take place Sept. 21.

The Affton Chamber of Commerce invites area residents and business people to the 4th Annual Affton Community and Business Expo on Thursday, April 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 at Affton High School Commons, 8301 Mackenzie Road. Learn more about the event, from the Affton Chamber of Commerce: Admission is free for everyone attending the event. Many local merchants will be vendors. Some restaurants will be providing food samples, and businesses will have giveaways and raffle prizes. There will also be a grand raffle prize this year. The Chamber's annual spring barbecue helps fund the Affton Community Days Parade.
The Affton Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual Spring Barbecue on Saturday, May 11, according to a release from the Chamber. The event provides seed money for the Affton Community Days Parade in order to keep the Parade a free event, according to the release. The barbeque will be held in the Schnuck’s parking lot at Gravois & Valcour, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., or when food runs out. An $8 includes baked beans and potato salad, with your choice of meat: half chicken, third slab ribs, two brats, or a pork steak. Hamburger and hot dog sandwiches will also be available, along with chips and a selection of soda. All meals are carry-out. Affton Days will be held Saturday, Sept. 21.

Timothy Weinmann, president of Kenrick's Meats and Catering, was named Saturday as the Affton Chamber of Commerce Business person of the Year.
Timothy Weinmann, president of Kenrick's Meats and Catering, is equally at home behind a piano or toting a guitar as he is with the T-Bone steaks and standing rib roasts featured at his business. Weinmann was honored Saturday as the Affton Chamber of Commerce 2012 Business Person of the Year. The second generation operator of the family business, Timothy took over from his father, Joseph Weinmann, the founder of the business that started in 1975 under the Weinmann banner. The Chamber notes that Weinmann started with his father's business at the age of 15 by sweeping up around the butcher shop, located on Dana Avenue and Weber Road. Timothy also worked at the store while he attended high school at CBC and, subsequently, at St. Louis …

The Affton Chamber of Commerce calls Pam and Larry Knox "tireless volunteers." The Chamber will honor the Affton couple as its 2012 Citizens of the Year at an auction and awards dinner Saturday at Royale Orleans Banquet Center, 2801 Telegraph Rd. The Chamber reports that the Knox's met at the now-defunct P.N. Hirsch & Co. store that Larry managed. Pam was a part-time employee at the same store. They married in 1968. The couple relocated several times to various other P.N. Hirsch locations around the Midwest before Larry ended up at the store at Gravois and Mackenzie roads in Affton in 1979 , according to a chamber bio. The families were adopted by chamber members and residents who fulfulled their "wish lists."
For the 15th year, the Affton Chamber of Commerce and its members gave a helping hand to families living in the 63123 ZIP code. In 2012, eight families were adopted by members and residents. It is estimated they spent more than $4,000 to fill the wish lists of the families. In addition, the Chamber received more than $1,000 in cash donations from members, from its Silent Auction at a November Trivia Night. The chamber budgets money each year for the program. This year it helped 11 adults and 24 children in the eight families referred by Chamber member churches and schools. The families referred to the Chamber all experienced some setback during the year, such as large medical bills or the breadwinner’s loss of a job. The adopted families …
