Congrats to Affton High School's Class of 2013

Two hundred four Affton graduates walked across the stage Wednesday.

The Affton High School class of 2013 graduated Wednesday, in a ceremony that recognized student leaders as well as those going on to serve in a branch of the military. This class was awarded a total of $4.3 million in college scholarships. Just a few days before graduation, Affton was recogized by Newsweek as one of the top high schools in the country in preparing its students for college. Newsweek: Affton High School Among Best in America

Affton High School made a list of the best public schools to prepare its student for college.

Affton High School has been recognized as one of the best public high schools in the country at preparing its students for college. Newsweek and The Daily Beast annually crunches the numbers, and this year Affton made number 1950 out of the 2000 in the list. The ranking is based on six elements, according to The Daily Beast/Newsweek. The list is based on six components: graduation rate (25 percent), college acceptance rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent), and percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICE course (5 percent). Affton's D.J. Mueller Recognized in College Soccer

The 2011 Affton graduate's passion, attitude and work ethic was rewarded.

Affton High School graduate D.J. Mueller (2011), who now plays soccer at Culver-Stockton College, was honored at its 2012-13 sports banquet May 8 with the PAW Award. The PAW Award is recognizes passion, attitude and work ethic, according to a press release from the college. It goes to one player from each athletic team and the student athletic training staff. Affton School Counselor Receives Highest State Honor

Mary Carpenter said every student is worthy, whatever his/her aspirations are.

Mary Carpenter, college counselor at Affton High School, recently received the 2013 Peggy Clinton Memorial Service Award, the highest honor the Missouri Association of College Admission Counseling (MOACAC) recognizes. Carpenter has served as a counselor at Affton High School for 27 years; the last two as college counselor, according to a school press release. “As a long-standing member of MOACAC, I am so honored to have been selected for this award,” said Carpenter. “We work hard so that every student has a post-secondary plan in place. I hope my students know that they are all worthy; the student in the floor-laying program at South County Tech is just as important to me as the student matriculating to a selective college.” Affton …

Affton Senior Signs to Play Basketball with Central Methodist University

Affton High School Senior, Halid Abera, received a scholarship and signed his letter of intent with Central Methodist University to play basketball.

182 Raise $5,000 for Affton 7th Grader

The run/walk was organized to benefit the family of the Affton seventh grader.

Rogers Middle School seventh-grader Mitchell Herndon had 182 friends on Sunday. The Affton 5 was held in Affton Sunday morning and 182 came to the event, raising more than $5,000 to benefit Herndon and St. Louis Children's Hospital, where he's being treated. Herndon's health failed last year to the point where he couldn't even get up unassisted. His health is improving greatly with help from the St. Louis hospital. Did you take pictures? VIDEO: Affton Ace Anthony Herron Shuts Out DuBourg

A scout from Jefferson College was at Friday's game with a speed gun and notebook.

Affton junior pitcher Anthony Herron led the Cougars to a 7-0 shutout over DuBourg on Friday. Affton now stands at 8-6 on the season. Herron is playing his third year on varsity, and Coach Rob Uthoff said they're fortunate to have him back next year. He's attracting college interest already. See game photos on Affton-Shrewsbury Facebook. "It's exciting for him and exciting for our program," Uthoff said. Uthoff said Herron's fastball averages 86-87 MPH. "He throws a curve ball that drops real well. He's got a split finger fastball that he falls in love with that drops off," he said. Herron also leads the area in batting, currently with a .643 average. Junior Zach Fiebig hit 3 for 4 and sophomore Nick Reyering went 4 for 4 against DuBourg. …

Is Prom Only Fun if You Dance?

Affton High School senior men say they don't want to go to prom because they don't like to dance. Did you go to your prom? Would you let your son miss his prom because he didn't like to dance?

It's almost prom time, so put on your boogie shoes and dance to the music! Unless, of course, you're a high school boy who doesn't like to dance. The men of the 2013 graduating class at Affton High School are thinking about skipping prom since they don't like to dance. Alison Nixon, a math teacher at Rogers Middle School and the mom behind the Affton Class of 2013 Parent Booster Facebook page, posted about the issue on the class' page: I've been hearing that some of you don't want to go to prom because you don't like to dance I don't really like to dance either BUT, The Old Rock House isn't just a big room with a dance floor.
