Police will visit block parties as neighbors become more acquainted with officers and one another.
The St. Louis County Police Department has scheduled a “St. Louis County Night Out Against Crime” next Tuesday (Oct. 2) for residents to join with local police officers in support of crime and drug prevention programs in their neighborhoods. The department also believes the "Night Out" events can strengthen the communication between police and the citizens they serve. In St. Louis County's Affton Precinct, officers will be out and about all evening on Oct. 2, visiting the various block parties that have been scheduled in various Affton area neighborhoods, according to Neighborhood Policing Officer David Sebek. The fifth annual Cops and Cowboys Fundraiser was held Wednesday at Texas Roadhouse.
A typical Wednesday night at the Kirkwood Texas Roadhouse is busy, but by 6 p.m., patrons had to wait in the lobby and outside for their Western food. The fifth annual Cops and Cowboys brought in a large crowd as St. Louis County and Kirkwood Police teamed up to raise money for the Special Olympics of Missouri. "You see the same faces come and help out each year," Det. Aaron Schafer said. "With what we're doing, it allows the athletes to compete in a variety of sports around the state."
